Healthy Relationships

When we see our relationship with God as a one way street where we are the ones that have to constantly look for him and make an effort to make and keep the relationship going, our human relationships will often mirror the same scenario where we are the ones that have to make the effort to keep it all going.

As the healing process begins we are able to start seeing that God has always pursued us also as much if not more than what we often chose to do. Over time it becomes clear that the reason why it seemed that way was because our wounds prevented us from experiencing the rush we feel when our lover is looking for us. Over time as this change of perspective takes place our human relationships are also affected as we are suddenly freed from the pressure to keep these one sided affairs going. You know those relationships that all they do is suck the life out of us and in return give us very little if anything at all.

Clearly there is also a place for all of us to be involved from time to time with friendships where others are unable to love us back the way we do. If we are honest we must admit that it we didn’t have at some stage of our journey people loving us well, even when we couldn’t, we would probably not be where we are today. Having said this it is very important to make sure that these are exceptions and not the rule in our lives.

Remember – the way we relate and who we relate with in our lives often reflects what our ongoing experience is in our private relationship with God.
