What Disqualifies You?

Here is one for all of us to ponder as we begin yet another week.

I was talking to a friend the other day about failure and how God loves people that fail. I shared with him that those that fail is because they had a go at something they were not good at but tried anyhow. They took a risk. After the conversation I made a list of some of the people in the bible that God moved through their lives in amazing ways and listed next to them what we are told about them. The list went something like this:

– Jacob cheated people for a living

– David was a murderer, had an affair, and one could safely say was at best needy

– Peter had a temper problem and often had a hard time controlling his passion

– Noah loved to drink

– Jonah did the opposite of what was beneficial and good for others

– Paul was a murderer and possibly the perfect model of what religion produces in us

– Gideon had an insecurity and image problem

– Miriam loved to gossip

– Martha worried about everything and was never still nor in the moment

– Thomas doubted

– Sarah was impatient and lacked trust

– Elijah was depressed

– Moses stuttered and was scared

– Abraham was way past it

– Lazarus was dead

What disqualifies you in your eyes?

You know those things you would not want anyone else to know about you…well it is those very things that disqualify you, you know the ones you try so hard to hide and manage against that actually qualify you to be part of what he is doing in the world today. The Bible is clear when it tells us that when we are weak, not perfect, healed, nor fixed, but weak that he is strong. Embrace your apparent weakness and as you do watch God use it as a stepping stone to lead you into a new and healthy reality in your life and the life of those that cross your path.

Think about that for a bit while you rest from all your trying this week!

Have a great and restful week!
