Only One

The other day I received an email inviting me to pay 25$ so that I could gain 25000 new followers on my Twitter account.

I must admit that it was very tempting yet as I considered this illustrious opportunity to move up in the social media ladder something rose up from within my heart. A stark reminder if you like which said – the results in your life belong to God.

You see today more than ever as I look at the numbers besides the “followers” tag, the likes I get on FB, or the shares on my blog I realize that if I want my reach to be real and true then it is really up to God what these are going to be as apparent popularity does not necessarily always mean that God is endorsing what you have to say.

Today I am comfortable enough to tell you that it is really up to Him if He feels that what I share needs to be read by 2 million, 2000, 20, or just for Him to get pleasure from seeing me express what He has deposited within me. This new approach has ushered me into a space of rest that is helping me to remain relaxed even when the numbers are not there and the followers and likes are not notching themselves up with every passing share. Please don’t misunderstand me. It is clearly very rewarding when we see many benefiting from our work, yet let us make sure that this popularity enables us to feel the joy that giving is meant to bring into our hearts and not something that we use to further buffer our insecure ego.

Always remember this – The reality is that we were always meant to live and perform to a favorably biased audience of One. Needing anything else from anyone else, as the wise King Solomon said, is very likely to be rooted in plain old vanity.
