Let God Kiss You Everyday

I went for a jog by the beach a few nights ago. As I came to the end of my run I went down to the water and was able to watch the sun setting over the mountains. The ocean was calm and there was no breeze at all. I put some instrumental music on my iPod and got lost in the moment.

As I sat there I was absorbed by the ocean, the sun, the mountains, and the plain stillness around and within me. I must have spent over 30 minutes just sitting there doing and thinking absolutely nothing yet so much happened within me. One particular thing I noticed was the waves that kept kissing the shore over and over without tiring. Gently but clearly I heard Dad tell me that this was how he is with us. Each day his love and mercy is new. Each day is a fresh dose of it. It is not the same as yesterday, and tomorrow it won’t be the same as the one today.

Even when we reject it and often don’t take the time to feel it and notice it he keeps coming like the waves. Each day a new opportunity. The amazing thing is that the shore could not do anything to make the waves come to it. They just did as this is what they were designed to do. In much the same way we can’t really do anything to deserve the ongoing doses of his love and grace each day either, yet he gives it as this is who he is.

Consider today that those of us that fail to be still like the shore end up building through our toiling the very dams that are responsible for keeping the waves of his love from flowing into our lives everyday. What we work extremely hard to somehow feel we will find it if we cease from our striving. You see, we are meant to be the ones that receive what he gives and he is the one that is meant to give what we can only receive and never get for ourselves.

Remember to let God do His part and you do yours. Life only becomes complicated when we try and reverse these two roles…

Have a great and simple weekend!
