Trusting God’s Current in Our Lives

I was sitting outside on our balcony a few days back smoking a cigar while I chilled and relaxed at the end of another day. Much of what I have been discovering these last few years has to do with the resistance that exists within all of us to loosen our grip as  we allow ourselves to be carried into unknown places where the deeper we go the less control we have yet the freer we become.
This particular day was windy and the wind current was clearly blowing in one direction. As I sat there a medium size bird appeared and began to work very hard flapping his wings as he tried to keep himself floating over one spot. As the wind increased the bird flapped all the harder until he could no longer. When this happened he turned himself and went with the current which of course was easier than fighting it. After being carried for a few hundred yards he turned himself around again and started to flap his winds as he flew against the current once again until he reached the same space as before. He floated and again tired himself out and allowed to be taken. This aviary saga repeated itself several times until he flew down to the ground and realized that there was no way he could go where he clearly thought was best for him.

When the winds of change begin to blow in our lives the direction they blow towards are not always the direction we thought or hoped for. Like the bird we fight and struggle as we seek to manipulate where we think is best for them to carry us. Some of us choose to resist them altogether and like my fellow bird start to fight and anchor ourselves with all we have to the place where we are currently not wanting to see any change at all. While some of us give up altogether and resign ourselves to the ground and another missed opportunity.

As I sat there Dad whispered into my heart by saying “use your energy to fly in the direction I show you instead of fighting with me like the bird” When we complain and feel that we are heavy burdened and tired and just can’t find our way, let us take some time to consider that the reason this might be happening is because we are too busy trying to prevent the very flow of life that is responsible for taking us to a better place and space than we could ever imagine or hope for.

Dad wants to give us the desires of our hearts. We are told that. However He knows what the best outer expression of these desires looks like. The way that they will be most fulfilling for us and most importantly others. How we choose to approach this will determine if this life of ours is an awesome ride or just a bunch of unfulfilling noise from all the unnecessary wing flapping we will do.

I know which one I am looking forward to while I learn to relax…How about you?

Have a great weekend!
