Leaving Shame Behind

I have been noticing that slowly over time as my heart has redirected its focus towards discovering how well I am loved despite of the mess in my life, that my way of thinking and vocabulary have also began to change indirectly.

Some time ago while I was still mainly entrenched on a journey based on performance words like should, could, and would populated my thinking and talking. Especially when it came to other people. Phrases like “well he should have done that” or “well if she cared enough she would have gone to see him…” regularly clouded my thoughts and exited my mouth. Today I am coming to understand that these words so commonly used often carry lots of shame behind them. This shame is the same shame we are polluted by in our own lives and so naturally we can only give to others what we have.

Slowly should, could, and would are being replaced with phrases like “maybe he didn’t feel like that was a good choice to make” or “perhaps she was not aware that going to see him was possible” As the shame is slowly healed out of my life it is becoming so much easier to see the bigger picture in my and the life of others that performance and judgement never allowed me to do.

Have a great and ‘shame free’ weekend!
